Liberatory Lineages: Unpacking & Resisting Anti-Blackness
October 20, 2021 @ 6:00PM — December 1, 2021 @ 8:00PM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
We are calling on our communities to join us for "Liberatory Lineages: Unpacking & Resisting Anti-Blackness," an online, four-part workshop series that deepens our individual capacity and collective joint struggle and solidarity to unpack, resist, and intervene in anti-Blackness.
*PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES HAPPENING OVER ZOOM*
Overview
Created and led by a group of inter-generational Black and Non-Black POC organizers, community leaders, scholars, artists, and landworkers, “Liberatory Lineages” offers participants access to:
- Politically radical curriculum that builds collective clarity and understanding of anti-Blackness as a global colonial project and an inherent mechanism through which white supremacy operates in the U.S. nation state;
- Grassroots teach-ins from Black, Arab, Asian, Latinx, and Muslim community leaders who share lessons about collective power-building, organizing, and liberation movements in our histories. These lessons will include reflections on joint struggle and resistance movements at the height of anti-colonial, anti-imperial, internationalist organizing;
- An intentional reflection space that supports and challenges individual participants and the collective to deepen our resourcefulness and networks of support;
- An empowering space that will foster clarity and direction around our collaborative strategies to inform, practice, intervene, and engage in joint struggle to resist and heal from anti-Blackness in our life and communities;
- Collaborative resource guides with further readings, actions, recommendations for grassroots orgs to build with, and more.
This workshop series is for everyone committed to disrupting anti-Blackness on interpersonal, communal, and systemic levels. We will be prioritizing the safety and participation of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color.
We believe that Black liberation is integral and deeply interconnected in all our relationships, movements, healing, and eco-systems.

Workshop Format Details
“Liberatory Lineages” is an online, four-part workshop series. All sessions are intentionally spaced out by two weeks to give participants processing time in between. Each session will take place over Zoom, is two hours long, and includes a teach-in portion and a “pod” portion where participants break out into smaller groups. We kindly ask you to ensure you can attend each workshop for the full two hours before you register.
This is not a drop-in series – each workshop builds off the last. If you cannot attend all four sessions, we ask that you leave the slot open for someone else who can!
Registration
Individuals: All participants who register as individuals will be assigned to 3-4 person groups/“pods” by the facilitation team. Individual registrants will be grouped with the safety of Black participants, indigenous participants, and participants if color in mind. Pods will be created based on racial identity and individual preference, which participants can mark during the registration process. Barring special circumstances, the pod you’re assigned at the beginning of the series will remain your pod throughout the series.
Groups: All participants who register as a group will be in the same group/“pod” throughout the entire workshop series. Participants may register in groups of 3-4. One person must register on behalf of the group, so please ensure the registrant has full names and emails of everyone in the group.
Institutional/Corporate Sponsorships: Institutions and corporate employers can sponsor attendees to join this workshop series for $400/person or $1,600 for a group of up to four employees. This workshop series will help your institution/corporation build stronger consciousness and tools to challenge anti-Black racism from a grassroots, praxis-based, and relationship perspective. Please note that person must register on behalf of a group, so please ensure the registrant has full names and emails of everyone in the group.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this workshop series for?
This workshop series is for everyone committed to unpacking, resisting, and intervening in anti-Blackness on interpersonal, communal, and systemic levels. We will be prioritizing the safety and participation of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color.
Can I register with a group of people?
Yes! Participants may register as groups of 3-4 individuals. These people will be in "pods" throughout the workshop series during the small group discussion portion.
If I register as an individual, how will I be grouped for the discussion portion?
All individuals will be grouped with the safety of Black participants, indigenous participants, and participants of color in mind. Groups will be created based on racial identity and individual preference, which participants can mark during the registration process.
Is this a drop-in style series or should I plan to be present for all four workshops?
This is not a drop in series, and each workshop builds off the last one. We kindly ask that you ensure you can attend each workshop for the full two hours before you register. If you cannot attend each session, we ask that you leave the slot open for someone who can.
I attended last year's UAB workshop series. How is this year's workshop series different?
This year's four-part workshop series has a brand new curriculum that was co-created in partnership with additional individuals and organizations. The teach-in format, small-group breakouts, and goals of this year's workshop series are completely different – if you joined us last year, this will feel like a (mostly) new program to you!
Why do I have to pay for this series?
This series is the outcome of several organizations who’ve come together during their staffed and/or work hours to collaborate on a thoughtful and robust set of programming and experiences based on decades of collective experience in a large swath of fields and sectors. The program has real costs associated with such a group coming together to make this happen. We are committed to making this as accessible as possible and we value participation above what folks might be able to pay at this time.
As you will see on the registration page, we offer everything from a $0 entry to a sliding scale geared towards institutions and other companies with higher budgets for staff development in these areas of work. We do this in good faith so that, collectively, each person will do the best they can at this time to participate and for those where funds allow, to support the costs of the program by contributing at a higher rate and cover those who are in the space for lower rates.
I'm looking for a racial justice training for my employees/team. Can my institution/corporation benefit from this training and sponsor my employees' participation?
Yes! This can be racial justice & professional development training for your organization/company. This workshop series will help your organization build stronger consciousness and tools to challenge anti-Black racism from a grassroots, praxis-based, and relational perspective. Institutional/corporate sponsorships are set at a flat fee of $400/person, or $1600 for a group of up to four employees.
Will this workshop series be offered again later this year?
This workshop series is co-created with several organizations and individuals over many months. Because of the amount of time and labor required to meet, build curriculum, develop pods, engage in feedback processes, etc., we currently only offer this series once a year.
Can the facilitation team customize this workshop series for my workplace?
We are in the process of determining how to offer custom “Unpacking and Resisting Anti-Blackness” to workplaces. If you are interested in requesting a custom version of this four-part series for your workplace, we encourage you to attend this four-part series so we can be in conversation about your needs and goals for your organization.
